The self-confessed “struggling” actor-cum-standup comic will regale audiences at the Bandra Fort Amphitheatre today with his inane stories as a struggler. As part of the Times Celebrate Bandra festival, Thakur will be performing a set as will three other members of his comedy troupe, Schitzengiggles (SNG) including Karan Talwar, Varun Thakur, Neville Shah and Kautuk Srivastava. SNG, which specialises in improv shows, besides sketch comedy and Youtube content, comprises six men, two of whom are married, one in a serious relationship and one, single. “The last one, Kautuk, is just plain horny,” laughs Thakur, the single one.
At the event, their punchlines will punctuate music. “We are mixing music with standup comedy,” says Neha Doshi of Culture Machine, a digital video company that manages a host of Youtube channels. So, amid performances by vocal singer Aditya Narayan and his band, singer-songwriter Gaurav Dagaonkar and guitarist Ravi Iyer, SNG and standup comic Aditi Mittal will rip apart Bandra’s cliches. “I have lived in Bandra as a kid,” says Mittal, adding that her material will not only target the way the locals approach spaces in the suburb but also the reason it’s called the queen of the suburbs.
