Special child goes missing, QR code locket helps cops reunite him with family

Mumbai: A 12-year-old specially abled boy who had gone missing from his Worli home was found six hours later, thanks to an innovative use of technology. The child, who is mentally challenged, was wearing a simple chain with a pendant that had a QR code listing his contact details. On Thursday evening, he was playing with other children near his home when he slipped away. The family later got to know that he had boarded a BEST bus from Worli, said his sister. “We don’t know what happened later, but he somehow reached south Mumbai. People who spotted him alone asked him where he had come from, but he is not in a position to give such details as he is 50% mentally challenged,” she said.The boy had reached Colaba and was reunited with his family after a policeman scanned the QR code and got his family’s phone numbers.
