PUNE: A new

police

software will let people lodge complaints using a laptop or even a cellphone. The system will be launched across the state in July.
The pilot project, launched for Pune rural last week, aims to give the common man access to the nearest police station using advancements in technology, though the app has not been launched yet. This will help people register their grievance quickly and allow the police to reach out to the young, tech-savvy population.
The highlight of the system is that the complainant will get an update on his/her application within 48 hours of filing the complaint.
The e-complaint portal can be used to file any type of complaint — accident, missing person, theft, robbery, cyber crime, loss of property, passport verification. A complaint can be filed by the affected person or even by someone not connected to the case, say, in case of reporting anonymous bodies.
State police chief Pravin Dixit said, “We want every person’s contribution for maintaining law and order in the state... Since youngsters adapt to technology fast, we expect a good response from this segment.” — Meenakshi Rohatgi
