Thane: The
SIT investigating the
Badlapur sexual assault case will seek judicial permission to undertake psychological profiling of the accused. As psychological profiles can be submitted as evidence in courts, SIT officials believe the process will strengthen their case against the accused. The SIT will rope in forensic psychologists, also known as criminal profilers, for it.
Sources said while in police custody, the accused had confessed to the crimes but had not shown any remorse for his actions.
A psychological profile could help explain his psyche and criminal behaviour, said SIT officials. "Psychologists use their knowledge of criminal behaviour as well as psychological theories and statistical probability to help identify criminals of serious crimes," said an official.
The SIT also plans to conduct a test identification parade to help the victims identify the culprit. The identification parade will be held in the presence of the executive magistrate.
The SIT is also tracing the accused's first two wives, who had left him within days of their wedding, to record their statements and understand his sexual behaviour. —Pradeep Gupta
