The state home ministry is said to have forwarded its proposal recommending Shangari as the new DGP to chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde.
Mantralaya officials suggested that additional director-general (state intelligence) V.N. Deshmukh may be appointed as city police chief.
Deshmukh, known as an upright officer, has served in the Intelligence Bureau and is popular among subordinate officers.
