SGNP gets 5-year-old tiger from Nagpur

A five-year-old tiger named Sultan was brought to Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) zoo on Thursday. The tiger reached the city after a two-day, 800km journey from Nagpur’s Gorewada Rescue Centre. Sultan has been brought to SGNP to mate with three tigresses—Bijlee (9), Mastani (9) and Laxmi (10). The breeding program will be undertaken once the tiger settles in his new home.
Sultan was not tranquilized and reached SGNP after several short breaks along the route.His journey on a specialized SGNP van was successfully conducted by the SGNP rescue team under the guidance of Shri Barabde, superintendent of Lion Safari Park, and Dr Shailesh Pethe, veterinary officer, SGNP. — Radhika Nair
