MUMBAI: Some of the Nigerian students living at Royal Palms in Aarey Colony are looking at other accommodation options that are closer to their college.
Seven students who recently moved to the city and are in the first year of their undergraduate programme do not have all the documents. As the local police have asked them to submit their documents soon, these students plan to move out of the society.
“Of the ones affected by the new police diktat, seven are completely new to the city,” Chike Ezeani, a second-year M Com student from Thakur College, said. “They have their passports, visas and college ID cards, but do not have the leave and licence agreement. Though we will be allowed to stay here, these people are new to the city and were sharing the apartment with some of us. Now they will have to move out.”
Ezeani said flats closer to college were expensive.
“The 2BHK flat that we get at Rs 14,000 at Royal Palms, in Kandivli it is for Rs 30,000,” a student said.
The Nigerian Students’ Union is requesting agents to arrange homes for the new students in the same society.
