Sena welcomes Alexander's RS candidature

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray welcomed former Maharashtra Governor P C Alexander''s candidature for the Rajya Sabha. "There is no politics in this (in backing Alexander). His candidature will help the state", the Sena chief said in party mouthpiece ''Saamna'' here. Thackeray''s reaction comes a day after Alexander filed his nomination for the house of elders as an independent.Justifying the party''s support to the former Governor''s bid for RS seat, Thackeray said Sena was applying the same yardstick used by Congress and NCP while backing missile technologist A P J Abdul Kalam. "We are applying the same yardstick. The party is supporting Alexander as he is a non-political person", the Sena leader said. "Alexander is above politics and an able administrator. During his tenure as a Governor, he worked for the development of the state", Thackeray added.
