A Shiv Sena leader from Bhiwandi was murdered in front of his wife by five people on Saturday morning.

MUMBAI: A Shiv Sena leader from Bhiwandi was murdered in front of his wife by five people on Saturday morning.
The deceased, Sadanand Devlekar (45), and his wife, Rekha, were on their way to a farm when five men intercepted them near Pai village and stabbed him around 27 times with choppers.
Rekha, who tried to stop them, was also assaulted. The five accused fled soon after.

Rekha informed her relative, Subhash, who rushed the victim to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Based on the description provided by Rekha and a passerby, the police registered a murder case against Jairam Devlekar, Anil Sawant, Jayesh Bhore, Prashant Bhoir and Gaikar.
N B Bodke, senior police inspector, Bhiwandi town police station, said, "Primary investigations show that the victim and the main accused, Jairam, are cousins. They had an old rivalry over some issue, which is why Jairam and his friends killed Sadanand."
Tensions ran high in the area after the killing as Sadanand was a popular leader. Several Sena leaders, including Vishwash Tale and MLA Rupesh Mahatre, visited Sadanand's residence to pay their respects.
