MUMBAI: MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT) supporters clashed over the construction of a structure meant for senior citizens at a playground in Worli on Tuesday, the assembly constituency of Shiv Sena UBT MLA Aditya Thackeray.
There was a sitting place for senior citizens in the ground, with the local MLA fund allocated for the renovation of the structure. However, the MNS claimed that locals opposed the ongoing work. MNS local office bearer Santosh Dhuri said, “As they were converting the open sitting place into a room, the locals opposed it. We checked with the concerned authority, and they said there was no permission given to construct the room. Despite the locals’ opposition, they were continuing the illegal work, which led to the argument.”
Shiv Sena UBT MLC and local leader Sunil Shinde said, “The structure existed there for a very long time, and senior citizens were using it for multiple purposes. The structure was being renovated considering the needs of senior citizens, but some people were opposing it.”
Shinde was a former MLA from Worli, and he vacated the seat for Aaditya Thackeray during the 2019 assembly election. MNS is working to establish its hold on the constituency to give a tough fight to its rival, Shiv Sena UBT, in the coming assembly election.
