In the age of smartphones and social media, clicking away in public without seeking the subject’s permission has become de rigueur, but not for Bill Hayes, the New York-based writer and photographer. “I always ask for permission before I take a photograph,” said Hayes, during his conversation with
Sooni Taraporevala, also a writer and photographer, in a session titled ‘Capturing the rainbow in black and white’.
Taraporevala said, “Mumbai is a hell for photographers. It’s humid, there are space constraints. I lost a lot of negatives. You can’t have a room dedicated to photo archives,” she said.
