Police said Chandramohan was stopped at Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday around 8.30am by immigration assistant Ramashankar Tripathi (59), who had been instructed by superiors to mark flyers, especially those Punjab, flying to board a ship. Though Chandramohan hailed from Thanjavur, he suspected him and decided to make him appear before wing in-charge Dinesh Pingalsur, who found he had submitted fake documents.
Police said Chandramohan held a valid passport, and a continuous discharge certificate but submitted fake letters. "The letter showed him joining the ship after his contract of commencement began on December 12. A probe is on to know why he approached an agent to get fake documents when he had valid documents. We have sought details from D G Shipping regarding the fake documents," said the officer.
A case under the IPC sections for cheating and forgery was registered against Chandramohan.
