Scuffle over girl ends in murder; 5 students arrested
MUMBAI: Five youths have been arrested for their involvement in the case in which a college student was killed by another student who suspected that the victim was having an affair with his girlfriend.
Of the arrested, Junel Abdul Mohammad Mirza (18), Behal Sonu Balwinder Singh (18) and Sayyed Ayas Ahmed are Std XII students of Bhagarda College, JB Nagar. Their accomplices have been identified as Mohammed Ayub Akbar Shaikh (23) and Akbar Mohammad Shamin Khan (23). The key accused, who is also a Std XII student of Bhagarda college, is still at large.
Zakir Khan (21), a student to Pathak College, was stabbed in the neck and abdomen with a sharp weapon on the night of August 6 near Sheetal Talkies, Kurla (west) while he was strolling with his friends near his house.
According to the police, there was a scuffle between Khan's friends and the accused. "Khan chased and caught the key accused who pulled out a knife and stabbed him,'' a police officer said.
Sources said that Khan had earlier asked Shoaib not to visit his locality where the girl lived. "This was one of the reasons for the fight,'' a police officer said.
The accused students, Khan and the girl used to go for tuitions at Chate Classes. "Based on the description provided by Khan's friends, we arrested the accused,'' a police officer said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone V) Milind Bharambe said, "The accused have been booked for murder and we have launched a manhunt to nab the key accused. He wanted to take revenge and killed Khan in a fit of rage.''
The police said the key accused, a resident of Kajupada in Saki Naka, had returned home after the murder and changed his bloodstained clothes. Senior inspector Dadasaheb Godse from the Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station said, "When the accused's parents asked him about the bloodstains, he told them that he had a quarrel with somebody. The next day he went missing.''
