MUMBAI: Over 70 nature lovers gathered at the Birsa Munda Chowk in Aarey Colony to mark the 50th Sunday of the people's movement to Save Aarey Forest.
Members of Aarey Conservation Group and Bombay Catholic Sabha also condemned the current Bill to dilute the Indian Forest Act, and also the atrocities against women in Manipur.
Alex D’Souza of Bombay Catholic Sabha told TOI: “It’s been almost a year since the people's movement to Save Aarey Forest began. Our head, Dolphy Dsouza, also recalled the recent incidents of sexual violence against women in Manipur. All the demonstrators have appealed for peace in that state and justice for the victims in Manipur."
Activist Amrita Bhattacharjee of ACG said, “If the Bill to dilute the Forest Act is passed by the parliament, then all forests will be vulnerable to destruction.”
