MUMBAI: Indian classical music lost a talented artiste in sarod player Zarine Sharma on Saturday. The quiet, low-profile lady passed away of intestinal failure. She was 69.
“That Parsi girl” who was born Zarine Daruwalla is survived by her husband, sitar player Ashok Sharma. He is the son of composer Bhagatram, one half of the Husnlal-Bhagatram duo.

Zarine’s prowess burst forth in songs like Nani teri morni, Mann re, Mere naina saawan bhadon, and Naam gum jayega. She worked with Roshan, R D Burman and Jaidev among other music directors.
Santoor artiste Ulhas Bapat, who was a student for five years, attended the prayer at Arya Samaj Mandir, Santacruz, on Tuesday.
