Sanjay Nirupam threatens to quit Congress

MUMBAI: Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Thursday threatened to quit after his party's leadership ignored his proposal to nominate Rais Lashkaria for the Versova assembly constituency. In the event Nirupam quits Congress, it will be a major setback to it in the poll run-up, especially to the city unit.

, but it was not considered. I am stunned and shocked. If the party cannot consider just one proposal, the day is not far when I will have to quit. As of now, I will not campaign for Congress nominees," Nirupam told TOI. Hours before, he had tweeted a similar message.

After Nirupam took over party reins in Mumbai, he ran into stiff opposition from rivals. Months before the

Lok Sabha

election, he was replaced by Milind Deora, who quit after Congress's defeat.

Nirupam said he is being humiliated. "It's indeed unfortunate. Honest party workers are being sidelined for obvious political reasons."
