MUMBAI: Congress MLC and MPCC general secretary Sanjay Dutt tendered his resignation from the Maharashtra legislative council to create a vacancy for chief minister
Prithviraj Chavan to enter the state legislature within six months after taking oath as a CM.
Dutt, accompanied by senior Congress leaders, called on the chairman of the sate legislative council, Shivajirao Deshmukh, in his chamber in Vidhan Bhavan on Friday and tendered his resignation.
Dutt, accompanied by Chavan, had called on Congress president
Sonia Gandhi at 10, Janpath, to seek her permission to resign from the council to make way for the CM. He had earlier met AICC general secretary in charge of the state Mohan Prakash and discussed organizational matters with him.
Will Dutt get the Rajya Sabha seat which Chavan will have to vacate before he files his nomination papers for the state legislative council seat vacated by the actor is the question being discussed in political circles. “I am grateful to Sonia Gandhi for giving me an opportunity to work as a legislator,” he said.
AICC general secretary Mohan Prakash said that he discussed organizational matters with Chavan when he was in Delhi. The party will take a decision on who should contest which seat once the vacancies arise, he said.
