MUMBAI: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has compiled a list of around 50 religious structures that will be affected by the development plan (DP) 2034. The party is examining details of other religious structures to add up the list. The detailed list will be submitted to the municipal commissioner.
The SP started preparing the list of all religious structures after they found that several mosques were shown as plots reserved for other purpose in the draft DP.
President of the SP’s Maharashtra unit, Abu Azmi, said that his party is opposing the civic authority’s decision to put reservation on religious structures. Party corporator Rais Shaikh claimed that they have made a list of 50 religious structures that will be affected by the DP.
Criticizing the draft DP at a press conference on Monday, Azmi questioned how religious structures have been marked correctly and in detail in the Existing Land Use (ELU) survey, but are marked as residential and commercial ones in the Proposed Land Use (PLU) survey.
“The only solution is to scrap the PLU,” said Councillor Rais Shaikh. “The areas designated in the PLU should be the same as those in ELU,” he said. Shaikh also said that even for the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act (MRTP), the BMC officials had to ensure that the structures are marked correctly. “They have turned the MRTP into a joke,” he added.
