MUMBAI: A man severely injured a senior citizen and looted her home in Matunga after gaining entry by posing as a salesman.
On Friday afternoon, the victim, Meena Sundaram (70), was alone at home when a man posing as a salesman bearing gift vouchers for refrigerators turned up at her house. Once inside, he attacked Sundaram with a knife and demanded that she hand over the cupboard keys.

The thief, who appeared to be around 34 years old, stole 2 gold bangles and goods collectively worth Rs 1 lakh and fled.
When the Matunga police arrived at Sundaram's house, they found that she had been wounded in several places including her head, neck and hands. She was also bleeding profusely and there was blood all over the house, a police officer said. Sundaram has now been admitted to Samodhya Hospital.
Neighbours said that Sundaram has been living alone in the flat for 10 years. The identity of the thief remains unknown. The Matunga police is investigating the case.

Around mid afternoon on Friday, a man posing to be a salesman with a gift vouchers for refrigerators broke into Meena Sundaram's house. She has been living alone for the last 10 years as told by her neighbors. The identity of the man who broke in remains unknown except that he may be around 34 years old. Once inside, he attacked her with a knife and has severely injured her as well. He also insisted that she give him her cupboard keys. Police reports say that he has stolen 2 golden bangles and goods worth 1 lakh. He has severely injured the old lady as well using a knife. She is currently admitted to Samodhya Hospital. There has been excess bleeding and she has been wounded in several places including her head, neck and hands. When she was discovered by the Matunga police, there was blood all over the house.
The case is currently being handled by Matunga police station and they are in the middle of investigation.
