Project aims to bridge East–West divide in Mulund

The Mulund East–West foot overbridge (FOB) is being built to improve pedestrian connectivity across the railway tracks, offering a safe alternative to risky track crossings and long detours between the two sides of the suburb.

2/8

Work progresses steadily, finishing touches underway

Construction of the FOB has reached an advanced stage, with the main structural work completed. Authorities said flooring, roofing, railings and lighting are currently being installed ahead of the final phase.

3/8

Strategic location near Mulund railway station

Situated close to Mulund station, the FOB will cater to thousands of daily commuters, including office-goers, students and vendors, easing movement between residential and commercial areas on both sides.

4/8

Enhanced pedestrian safety a key focus of the project

The bridge has been designed with safety features such as anti-skid flooring, protective railings and adequate lighting to ensure secure movement even during peak hours and adverse weather.

5/8

Design includes accessibility-friendly infrastructure

Wide staircases and well-planned entry and exit points have been incorporated to accommodate elderly citizens, children and commuters carrying bags, making the bridge more user-friendly.

6/8

Expected to reduce congestion and unsafe crossings

Once operational, the FOB is expected to curb jaywalking and trespassing across railway tracks, easing congestion on nearby roads and reducing the risk of accidents.

7/8

Final inspections to precede public opening

Officials said the FOB would be opened for public use after mandatory safety checks and inspections are completed, a process that is expected to conclude soon.

8/8

Coordination between civic body and railways

The project is being executed through close coordination between civic authorities and the railways, with regular monitoring to ensure adherence to safety and construction standards.
