Rs 122cr New India Cooperative Bank scam: EOW records statement of CA
Mumbai: The city Economic Offences Wing (EOW), probing the alleged misappropriation of Rs 122 crore cash from New India Cooperative Bank, on Thursday recorded the statement of chartered accountant Abhijit Deshmukh, who had submitted the audit report for the bank during the 2019-20 period.
The EOW had earlier sent him summons asking him to appear before the investigating officer.
On Wednesday, the EOW had questioned New India Cooperative Bank's former chief executive officer Abhimanyu Bhoan and recorded his statement. Police may also summon the bank's directors to record their statements, said sources.
The misappropriation of funds came to light when a team of RBI officials on Feb 12 inspected New India Cooperative Bank and found Rs 122 crore cash missing. Dadar police then registered an FIR. Police have so far arrested the bank's general manager and head of accounts, Hitesh Mehta (57), and builder Dharmesh Paun (57).
