MUMBAI: A restaurateur was arrested in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old man at Borivali West on Thursday. Laxman Shettiyaar had died on Wednesday following a serious injury near his eyebrow which he had sustained in a scuffle. Police said Shettiyaar had a scuffle with his uncle over monetary issues. Shettiyaar's uncle is wanted in the case.
"We have arrested a restaurateur, Deepak Naidu, on charges of murder and kidnapping. Naidu had taken Shettiyaar to Borivali where the latter's uncle had been waiting for him. Shettiyaar was a Mira Road resident," a police official said. Shettiyaar and his uncle had a fight. Naidu and Shettiyaar's uncle, along with their associates, assaulted Shettiyaar.
A wounded Shettiyaar stumbled back home where his room-mate inquired what had happened. He confided in his room-mate about the fight and added that he was feeling very uneasy. His room-mate rushed him to a local hospital and then shifted him to the Bhagwati Hospital at Borivali, where doctors pronounced Shettiyaar dead. The post-mortem report revealed that Shettiyaar had died due to the injuries inflicted on him. The Borivali police then made inquiries and took Naidu into custody. A manhunt has been launched for Shettiyaar's uncle and the latter's associates.
