, stands out as an inspiration. Shaikh beat all odds to secure a coveted IIT seat with an all-India rank of 1,023. But he may get an even better deal: Under the newly-introduced EWS quota, he has secured rank 56, which gives him a shot at a course of his choice- electrical engineering in IIT Bombay.

Shaikh shares his 96-sqft room with his parents, grandmother and a younger sibling. "He faced immense problems while preparing for the IIT entrance exam due to lack of space in our house. He has made us proud with his achievement," said his father, Akhtar Shaikh, who works as a fitter with BEST. Mother Halimabi is a homemaker.

Regardless of the constraints, the boy has shot ahead as a beacon of inspiration for students across the country. After finishing his course at IIT, Shaikh wants to pursue research in the government sector.
