MUMBAI: In a second similar case in a month, the

railway medical team

came to the rescue of a woman passenger in labour pain and helped her deliver a baby at

Igatpuri station early Sunday morning

.

"The woman was travelling in 01093 Mumbai-Varanasi special and she went into labour when the train was about to reach Igatpuri in the wee hours of Sunday," said Central Railway chief spokesperson Shivaji Sutar.

"In the critical situation, she was helped by the railway medical team and delivered a baby at Igatpuri station. Both mother and child are fine," he said.

The newborn and the mother were shifted to rural hospital, Igatpuri by an ambulance for postnatal treatment.

This is the second such case in a month at Igatpuri wherein Railways played an proactive role to come to the rescue of pregnant women during Covid-19 crisis, he stated.

Earlier in June end, a pregnant woman delivered a baby boy in the train she was travelling in before it reached Igatpuri station. Sony Devi (30) was on her way to her native place in
