MUMBAI: Activists of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest outside the
University of Mumbai on Monday seeking relief for 230 undergraduate students of N M College and more students from a few other colleges who were debarred from their final exam for not meeting attendance criteria. NSUI held a 'no violence, but no silence' protest on Gandhian lines.
The university has agreed to admit these students in their Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) and assured them of being reabsorbed in regular classes at their colleges from next year if they pass their final exam.
The university has extended admissions to IDOL up to the end of this month. Several students who had missed their college and the university exams were initially reluctant to take admission for distance education. They have now agreed to it, said NSUI leader Suraj Thakur.
