MUMBAI: A polio-affected advocate who had gone to serve a magistrate’s order regarding the illegal arrest of his client at Vakola police station, was allegedly beaten up by an assistant police inspector. Deputy commissioner of police (zone VIII) V D Mishra has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The complainant, advocate Moin Khan, said that he had gone to serve a notice of the Bandra metropolitan magistrate regarding the illegal arrest of his client Abdul Khan by the Vakola police a fortnight ago.

Abdul was recently released from jail.
“Assistant police inspector Swapnil Patil refused to accept the magistrate’s order and threw it at me and also alleged I was a terrorist. I got angry and abused Patil for misbehaving with me. As I was leaving the police station, Patil assaulted me with stick on my left leg, which is polio-affected, and took Rs 25,000. He later let me go, but did not return the money,” claimed Moin. He added that he panicked and left the police station on learning that they were registering an offence against him.
Mishra said, “I have ordered an inquiry into the incident. If he was beaten by cops, he should have got a medical test done and filed an FIR; why did he run away? I have been informed that Moin Khan used very filthy language against the policemen.”
