NEW DELHI: The police will file a chargesheet within a week in the case of a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly raped, tortured, and murdered in Thane district, official said on Thursday.
The main accused, Vishal Gawli, and his wife Sakshi Gawli were arrested for the crime that occurred on December 23, 2024.
The couple allegedly abducted the young girl from Chakki Naka area of Kalyan while she was playing outside her home. After Vishal reportedly raped and killed her, they transported the body in an auto-rickshaw to Bapgaon on Kalyan-Padgha road where they disposed of it.
Police recovered the victim's body on December 24 and arrested Sakshi Gawli the same night. Vishal was apprehended the following day from Buldhana district.
Vishal, a resident of Kolsewadi in Kalyan tehsil, was married to Sakshi, a bank employee, who is his third wife. Both suspects are currently in judicial custody.
"The case is being thoroughly investigated and a chargesheet will be filed against the accused in the next one week," Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende told reporters.
"All efforts are being made to ensure there are no errors or loopholes in the investigation," he said.
The investigation is nearly complete, with authorities consulting senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam to build a strong case. Officials are working to have the case tried in a fast-track court to ensure swift justice.
