Police arrest Navin, brother for wife's death
Navin was booked under sections 498 (A) (cruelty to spouse) and 306 (abetting suicide) of the IPC. His brother, Pravin Nischol, was also arrested.
Navin was booked under sections 498 (A) (cruelty to spouse) and 306 (abetting suicide) of the IPC. His brother, Pravin Nischol, who had been summoned for questioning on Friday but did not turn up, was also arrested in the case.
Both will be produced in Bandra court on Saturday.Earlier, on Friday, Navin was questioned for several hours about how he met Geetanjali and what made them drift apart.
Navin and Geetanjali got married in 1999. It was the second marriage for both. "Geetanjali was earlier married to businessman Motilal Paanwala.
After being thrown out of their Khar home by Pravin, the couple moved into a flat at Mahim that belongs to Paanwala,"said an officer.
In her suicide note, Geetanjali had said her husband and brother-in-law harassed her. The police grilled Navin in this regard.
Navin said they were facing a financial crisis and he wasn't getting good film offers. He said his wife was depressed due to monetary problems. He added that after being thrown out of their Khar home she became more depressed.
Geetanjali said in her diary that her husband was an alcoholic. "I don't think I can be called an alcoholic. But my wife disapproved of my drinking which, she thought, was excessive,"Navin told police. Geetanjali disapproved of Navin's relationship with his ex-wife.
