Nullah wall collapse leads to Goregaon-east road cave-in

MUMBAI: The wall of IT park major nullah collapsed late on Monday night leading to a road in Goregaon-east to crack open.A truck that was parked at the site also caved in along with the road owing to which a crane was required to be brought to lift the vehicle.Traffic along the road was affected briefly. The road was constructed last year by the BMC and is still under defect liability period (DLP).Traffic police have blocked a 200-meter stretch and disallowed vehicle movement for now. The other arm of the road is being used to operate two way traffic. When contacted, a BMC official said that after the wall of the nullah crashed, the entire road also collapsed. "This is a major nullah and around a 15-metre stretch has been affected owing to the wall of it crashing," said the officer. An MNS functionary from Dindoshi Vijay Borra said that he had been complaining to the BMC to increase the height of the nullah for the past two years. "In 2021, I had given a written complaint to the BMC. If the nullah had been inspected back then this incident could have been averted. Because of the road cave-in many office-goers who use the route to come to the IT park had to face a difficulty in commuting," said Borra.Locals said that the Goregaon Mulund Link Road work is also under way further down the locality where the road caved in.
