NCP (SP) neta slapped with FIR after ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ video from Mumbra protest

Thane: Police have registered an FIR against Shamim Khan, a local leader of the NCP (SP), after a video surfaced purportedly showing him shouting "Pakistan Zindabad" during a protest in Mumbra. The clip, which began circulating on WhatsApp earlier this week, allegedly captures Khan raising the slogans near Jama Masjid, adjacent to the Kausa petrol pump.Khan remained unavailable for comment.Sources said the video is purportedly from an April protest that was held in the presence of NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad and appears to have resurfaced now. Officers said that although a crowd of 15–20 people is seen holding banners, Khan is the only person heard raising the alleged slogans in the clip.A complaint was filed after the video was viewed on WhatsApp, prompting police action on grounds that the slogans could hurt national sentiments and disturb public harmony. The FIR states that the slogans were allegedly raised with the intention of creating fear, provoking emotions, and promoting enmity.Police have booked Khan under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 353(1)(b), which deals with statements that may cause public fear or alarm, and 197(1)(d), related to assertions prejudicial to national integration. No arrests have been made yet, and further investigation is in progress.
