Navi Mumbai: Over 40 animal rights activists visit NMMC chief over stray dog issue

Navi Mumbai: Over 40 animal rights activists and feeders on Monday visited the NMMC head-office in Belapur and met the municipal commissioner, with regards to the sensitive issue of police complaint lodged against two animal feeders who asked the civic staff where they were taking away sterilized dogs from Ghansoli.A member of Rakshak animal welfare group said: "We animal lovers, led by Vijay Rangare of Rakshak, met the municipal commissioner Kailas Shinde to discuss why FIRs were filed against two women feeders from Ghansoli, and why sterilized dogs are being picked up by NMMC."
The veterinary officer, S Todkar, was unavailable for comment, however, he communicated over phone that he will meet the activists on Tuesday.The animal lovers also asked the civic chief why dog feeding spots have still not been designated in NMMC areas."The matter on the stray dogs issue is still ongoing in the Supreme Court, hence, we feel that NMMC must not hurriedly pick up healthy and sterilized dogs, and jail them in small cages."Team Rakshak also showed concern over the police complaint done against two dog feeders.
