Navi Mumbai mayor assaulted

NAVI MUMBAI: Mayor Sagar Naik was allegedly assaulted by Congress and Shiv Sena corporators during the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) general body meeting on Friday evening.
A police case has been registered on behalf of Naik by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) against Congress corporator Dashrath Bhagat and Sena corporator Manoj Haldankar.
The personal secretary of the Naik family, Sachin Adsul, told TOI, "When the national anthem was playing, while the meeting was ending in the evening, Bhagat and Haldankar uprooted their microphones and threw them towards the mayor.The microphone thrown by Bhagat hit Naik and injured his hand and shoulder."
Adsul added that Naik was sent to the NMMC hospital in Vashi, where he is being treated for his injuries.
A case has been registered and the Navi Mumbai police have assured the NCP that they will take action against the accused. TOI tried to contact Naik, but his cell phone was switched off as he was resting in hospital.
