History-sheeter arrested with drugs worth 6L

Navi Mumbai: A notorious history-sheeter residing in Govandi has been arrested by Navi Mumbai crime branch's Anti-narcotics Cell (ANC) team for selling narcotics at a makeshift tin shade along the Uran-Panvel highway. Sandeep Nigade, senior inspector of ANC, informed that the arrested accused has been identified as Rajan Rathod (32). Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a raid at the makeshift shade on Thursday, when the accused was found in possession of narcotics worth Rs 6 lakh comprising 21 grams of heroin and 1 kg of ganja, apart from the materials used for consuming drugs like small pipes (chillim) used by drug addicts for smoking cannabis (ganja), Rizla cigarette rolling papers, Gogo paper, and silver foil papers being used for snorting narcotics. Rathod has been handed over to Uran police, where an FIR under the NDPS Act has been registered against him. He has been remanded to police custody till Monday, Oct 7.Inspector Nigade said, "There are seven serious offences of dacoity, half-murder, murder, Arms Act, and NDPS Act registered against the accused Rathod at various police stations in Mumbai and Palghar. In 2019 and 2021, NDPS Act cases are registered against Rathod at Shivaji Nagar police station and also attempt to murder and assault cases this year. While a case of dacoity with Arms Act is registered against him at RCF police station in 2018, another case of Arms Act is registered at Deonar police station in 2019. Also, in 2019, a case is registered at Valiv police station in Palghar district for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and criminal intimidation."
