MUMBAI: Citizens loosened their purse strings on Sunday to help Atul Srivastav (45) take his ailing wife Bandna (35) home in Bihar, to see their two children.
On May 10, TOI reported the financial constraints holding the Srivastavs in Mumbai. Bandna suffers from kidney cancer. The couple came to Mumbai March 9 for her treatment at KEM Hospital, and were stuck since lockdown.

Doctors told Atul she did not have long to live, but with only Rs 3,000 left, the journey seemed impossible.
Thanks to Mumbaikars, their ordeal is likely to end soon. Several individuals came forward with monetary aid. An NGO paid their rental dues as well. A real estate developer arranged for an ambulance to take them home. They obtained the necessary travel passes, and on Sunday midnight, the couple started their journey home.
