MUMBAI: A 22-year-old youth who was depressed killed his 46-year-old mother in Mulund on Saturday evening and then attempted suicide.
The woman, Chaya Panchal was a resident of Vasant Nagar in Mulund (West). Her son, Jayesh, who completed his civil engineering last year, was rushed to JJ hospital after he was found injured on the railway tracks in Mulund.
Police said the incident took place inside Panchal's third floor flat, when the two were at home.
Around 5.30pm he stabbed his mother with a kitchen knife and fled from the house.
Neighbours alerted police and started looking for Jayesh, when they learnt from railway police that Jayesh was found lying on the tracks injured. Police said that they have also found a letter in Gujarati blaming himself for the murder .
"Prima facie the family were had some property issue, for which they were disturbed. While the father Mahesh, who is into manufacturing of medicines, was away at work when the incident took place. The son, after killing the mother, attempted suicide and has been seriously injured. We are yet to record statements from him and others so the matter is subject to verification."' said Prashant Kadam DCP (zone VII).
In June, a 17-year-old girl and her family's 60-year-old driver died by suicide after they killed her mother and elder sister in a three-storey building in Kandivli (West) where they resided.
