MUMBAI: A 55-year-old private tutor from Saki Naka died soon after undergoing a major surgery in a leading hospital in south Mumbai. Alleging medical negligence, her relatives filed a complaint with the Gamdevi police station on February 26.
Emelia Norohna was admitted to Bombay City Eye Institute and Research Centre in Babulnath on February 26 for an oculoplasty surgery in her right eye.

Oculoplasty is a specialized branch of ophthalmology in which abnormalities such as tumours or tear duct problems around the are surgically corrected.
"She died around 6 pm just a few minutes after the surgeon came out and told us that the surgery was a success," Norohna's nephew Ajay Lombore told TOI. But Norohna was shifted to Dalvie Hospital after she started having breathing problems.
Dr Kulin Kothari, who owns Bombay City Eye Institute, said the operation was conducted by a specialist, Dr Akash Shah.
"We also had an experienced anesthetist who accompanied the family in the ambulance to Dalvie Hospital," he said. Her post-mortem was conducted in JJ Hospital in Byculla and the report is awaited. He said the police had taken statement from all the doctors concerned.
