MUMBAI: A video posted by Yogesh Soman on Monday inviting people to a Shiv Sena event in Pune raised eyebrows. Soman, director of
Mumbai University’s Academy of Theatre Arts, was sent on forced leave last week, for allegedly passing a ‘derogatory’ remark against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The varsity claimed action was initiated after complaints from students over academic issues.
Sena-affiliated union Bhartiya Kamgar Sena and Chitrapat Sena organised a cultural event at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir on January 22 in memory of Sena chief, the late Bal Thackeray. Congress (their alliance in Maha Vikas Aghadi) leaders have been pushing for action against him for posting the video.
Sena deputy leader Raghunath Kuchik told TOI Soman was not a political leader and he was invited for a workshop and lecture on acting.
Mumbai University and College Teachers’ Association urged VC Suhas Pednekar to withdraw action against Soman over political pressure.
