MUMBAI: Marathi TV show producer Rahul Ishwar Kapoor was arrested on Monday for allegedly cheating a petrol pump owner of Rs 1 crore. An FIR against Kapoor had been lodged at MIDC police station in September 2017 and he had approached Bombay high court with an anticipatory bail plea earlier this year. The plea was rejected.
In his complaint, petrol pump owner Tarasingh Nagpal said that chartered accountant Kiran Shah had, in 2015, requested him to invest in a firm where Kapoor was the director.

Shah, a co-accused in the case, has not been arrested. Shah requested Nagpal to invest Rs 1 crore, promising 25% dividend. The FIR says a flat in an under-construction building was shown to be transferred in Nagpal's name. A month later, Nagpal's calls about the investment got no response. An MOU said a flat in Goregaon, belonging to Shah would be transferred to Nagpal in lieu of the investment, but he never got possession.
Kapoor is in custody till October 12. His lawyer, Prakash Asrani, said, "The transaction is civil in nature and a criminal complaint is forcibly registered." Shah's lawyer Shreyansh Mithare said they are approaching the high court for anticipatory bail.
