MUMBAI: Despite the unseasonal rain showers on Tuesday night, both maximum and minimum temperatures stayed above normal on Thursday, causing discomfort to Mumbaikars.
The heat is expected to persist for two more days and the temperature is expected to drop next week, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
"The southeasterly winds are causing discomfort during the day in the city. After January 15, we expect a dip in temperatures," said Sushma Nair, scientist, IMD.
On Thursday, the Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 32.8 degrees Celsius - 2.6 degrees above normal - and minimum temperature of 23.2 degrees Celsius - 4 degrees above normal. The Santacruz weather station recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius - 2.4 degrees above normal - and a minimum of 23.6 degrees Celsius - 6 degrees above normal.
On January 6, the minimum temperature recorded by the IMD Santacruz observatory had dropped to 17.5 degrees Celsius, making it the lowest of the season.
