Police are looking for five to six more suspects who were seen moving suspiciously, but they disappeared into the crowd as soon as the programme ended. Police estimate more than 70,000 people were present at the event.
During preliminary probe, the trio is said to have told the police they had come to Mumbai to make a quick buck by pickpocketing and stealing mobile phones.
Police have recovered a gold chain and Rs 11,000 from the three suspects.
“The value of the stolen valuables is approximately Rs 4 lakh,” said an officer, adding there may be several more victims who haven’t lodged a complaint.
