Heavy rains lashed Mumbai, leaving many parts of the city in waist-deep water and disrupting rail and road traffic on Wednesday. The Santacruz observatory recorded 286.4 mm rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Wednesday, making it the fourth highest rainfall in Mumbai since 1974, an IMD official said. BMC disaster control room stated that services on Central railway stopped due to water logging between Kurla-Dadar and Dadar-Masjid Bunder. Waterlogging forced traffic diversion at Hindmata, Gandhi Market, Sion Road, Malad Subway, Bandra Talkies, Shastri Nagar in Goregaon, Andheri Market Subway and many other areas. Due to heavy rain and water logging between Churchgate and Andheri Suburban, train service is suspended.
