MUMBAI: Senior officers of Mumbai police met officials of the ministry of home affairs (MHA) earlier this week and took up the issue of custodial interrogation of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as part of their probe into the killing of former minister Baba Siddique.
The MHA officials have reportedly assured Mumbai police officers that they will consider the plea.
While investigating the firing at the Bandra residence of actor Salman Khan, police had found the involvement of Bishnoi and booked him in the case.
However, the central govt has been for months sitting on city police's request to obtain Bishnoi's custody from Sabarmati jail. MHA had in Aug 2023 issued an order under Section 268 (1) of Criminal Procedure Code against Bishnoi, which prevented him from being taken out of the prison for any purpose.
Meanwhile, Siddique's son, MLA Zeeshan, who met Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar on Thursday, demanded justice for the NCP politician and said the matter should not be politicised. "My father lost his life protecting and saving the lives and homes of poor innocent people. Today, my family is broken but his death must not be politicised and definitely not go in vain. I NEED JUSTICE, MY FAMILY NEEDS JUSTICE!" he posted on X.
