Mumbai: In its special drive, the city police successfully apprehended 367 wanted and absconding accused.
Acting on directives from the police commissioner,
Mumbai police carried out the special drive between Jan 1 and March 31, 2026, and arrested the accused who had been evading arrest and produced them before the concerned courts. Significantly, 18 of those arrested had been absconding for over 20 years and were living elsewhere under fictitious identity.
Among the notable arrests, Azad Maidan police station nabbed an accused absconding since 1987, while N M Joshi Marg police station arrested another who had been on the run since 1988. A break-up of the arrests shows 18 accused from cases prior to 2005, 4 from 2006–2010, 10 from 2011–2016, 33 from 2016–2020, and 302 from 2021 onwards.
