MUMBAI: A water pipeline burst in suburban Andheri in Mumbai on Wednesday, leading to water leakage that surged several feet into the air close to residential complexes.

Officials from the Mumbai civic body said that the affected pipeline, which had a diameter of 1200mm, was situated across from Oshiwara's Infinity Mall. The incident took place around 2.45pm.

Numerous videos of the event are circulating on social media, displaying water forcefully spouting from the fractured pipeline, reaching heights comparable to 8 to 10-storey buildings.

According to a statement from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the hydraulic department promptly halted the water supply within the pipeline and immediately initiated repair work.

Due to the incident, there will be no supply of water to some areas, including Millat Nagar, SVP Nagar, MHADA and Lokhandwala till the pipeline repair work is completed, it said.
