faced a major power failure between 1.30 pm and 7 pm on Friday after the main underground power supply cable was damaged during excavation work.
According to sources, the labourers of a sub-contractor working on the Bandra-Versova sea link project reportedly damaged the underground cable while carrying out digging work at Santacruz. Meanwhile, the officials of MSRDC, which has awarded the work, pointed out that a sub-contractor was working on connecting a drainage system for the site office of the project when the incident occurred.
"We regret the inconvenience caused to some of our consumers who are facing supply interruptions. We have deployed around 10 DG sets to reduce the inconvenience. Be rest assured that our teams are working on war footing and expect to normalise supply by 7 pm. The interruptions are due to an unfortunate electric cable damage by ongoing excavation works related to Versova-Bandra sea link project," AEML spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, residents of Mulund also complained of a power failure for about two hours which according to MSEDCL officials might have been caused due to minor technical fault locally.
