MUMBAI: City crime branch probing the leakage of personal confidential data of the citizens of Maharashtra, Delhi and Gujarat by allegedly hacking into Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) servers by two websites and the sale of the information to marketing agencies and financial institutions, on Wednesday arrested one more person in Telangana.
Crime branch Unit 6 arrested Mohammed Ayaz Hussain (48), a resident of Malakpet in Telangana, for allegedly selling the data to two arrested brothers, Nikhil and Rahul Yeligatti. Hussain is the third accused to be arrested in the case and police are still looking for Bhavesh Modi and two more accused.
"We have just arrested a third accused from Hyderabad who had sold the data to the two siblings and they in turn sold the data in Mumbai. He is being interrogated. It is still not clear whether the accused hacked into the UIDAI servers or breach into and procure the confidential information," said Krishnakant Upadhyay, DCP (crime detection).
Last week, police arrested Yeligatti brothers following information that two websites, tracenow.com and fonivotech.com, were created to access details and Aadhaar link of individuals.
