CM takes the jab

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Mumbai’s JJ Hospital. After taking the vaccine, he urged the people to follow social distancing, wear masks and avoid unnecessary travel. “We might have to impose a lockdown in some areas if rules are not followed,” he said. He also said that there is no need to fear or have confusion about the COVID-19 vaccine. Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 13,659 new coronavirus cases, the highest one-day spike this year, which took the state's caseload to 22,52,057. With 54 fatalities, the death toll stood at 52,610. Presently, there are 99,008 active cases in the state.

Fire breaks out in Ambernath

A massive fire broke out at a chemical factory in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area of Ambernath on Thursday. The incident took place around 5:45 am at RK Company in Ambernath’s Anand Nagar. As soon as the fire officials were alerted, eight fire engines of Ambernath and Badlapur fire stations rushed to the spot. The cause of the fire is not known yet.

‘Why Fadnavis did not raise voice for Anvay case?’

Akshata, the wife of Mumbai based designer Anvay Naik who died by suicide three years ago, welcomed the SIT probe announced by the Uddhav Thackeray-led government and demanded that inquiry should also be initiate against the erstwhile government which put pressure on the police not to probe the case after the suicide. Adnya, Anvay Naik’s daughter, questioned former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis’ intention who raised a voice on Mansukh Hiren's death case in the assembly and forced the government to transfer a police officer. “Why Fadnavis did not raise a voice for Anvay suicide case in the state assembly? We are not terrorist or anti-national personalities,” she said.

NSG commandos take vaccine shot

As many as 250 NSG commandos took the COVID-19 vaccine shot at BKC Covid Center in Mumbai on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mumbai witnessed a huge surge in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. At least 1,539 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, which took its case tally to 3,37,123, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
