MUMBAI: Mumbai Metro, which completed its first anniversary on June 8, boasts of 99% punctuality and zero cancellation. The Metro, on an average, runs 368 services on weekdays with an average frequency of 3.48 minutes.
Abhay Mishra, chief executive officer of Mumbai Metro One Private Ltd, said, “It is an achievement in itself. Usually, a new system takes times to stabilize but Mumbai Metro was an exception because of a combination of factors, including use of best technology and better preparedness.”
The 11.40-km corridor on an average caters to 2.62 lakh commuters per day.
Any failures could have had a cascading impact on the services.
MMOPL’s director Debasis Mohanty said, “Not only were there no failures in the running of trains, but there have also been no instances of malfunctioning of the escalators or automated gates through which the passengers enter and exit the Metro system.”
An MMOPL spokesperson said, “We had made preparations before introducing the system. For instance, the trains were tested upto maximum speed of 90 kmph by experts from Japan, Germany, China and Indian railways..”
Four rakes are taken out at 4am for a pilot run daily to ensure that everything is working properly before the services are opened to public at 5.30 am.
