MUMBAI: The Malabar Hill police in Mumbai arrested a 31-year-old man from Rajasthan who had pretended to be an army officer and cheated a Malabar Hill resident of nearly Rs two lakh in a cyber fraud.
The accused, Ehsan Khan, was arrested after the police investigated the money trail and found his location.
The complainant told police that she has a flat in Bengaluru and wanted to give it on rent.
She had posted about it on the internet.
Following this, she received a call from a person who introduced himself as an Army man and also sent his fake ID in uniform.
He said he wanted to take the flat on rent.
The accused told the complainant that in the Army they had a reversal system and asked the complainant that whatever amount she would send him, it would be returned to her and she would also get her money in return and the rent.
Initially, he asked her to send him Rs 10 twice, and both the times she got Rs 20 back.
This is how he gained her trust and in several transactions asked her to send money.
The woman ended up losing nearly Rs two lakh and lodged an FIR.
