MUMBAI: One person died after a major

fire

broke out in a highrise building located at

Currey Road

in Mumbai around noon on Friday.

The fire broke out at around 11.51am on the 19th floor of the 61-storey One Avighna Park tower. It was tagged as a 'level-4' (major) fire at 12:55pm.

The fire brigade team rushed to the spot with 14 fire engines and doused the blaze at around 1:25pm.

The deceased has been identified as Arun Tiwari (30), a security guard. He fell to his death from the balcony of a flat on the 19th floor.

"30-year-old Arun Tiwari was declared brought dead," said Dr Pravin Bangar, deputy dean, KEM Hospital.

Fire brigade officials said that 26 people were safely rescued with no injuries.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Chahal visited the spot and ordered a probe.

Meanwhile, mayor Kishori Pednekar said that the fire brigade team can't be blamed for the death of one person.

The 61-storey One Avighna Park is a high-end luxury residential tower in Central Mumbai. A fire evacuation mock drill was conducted in the building on October 1. This was confirmed by builder Kailash Agarwal, who is currently in Dubai.

The Monorail operations which were halted due to proximity to the site resumed around 3:15pm.

The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
